The President of UKE at the World Summit on the Information Society 2026 Forum (WSIS Forum 2026)

As part of the Digital Week, the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS Forum) is taking place in Geneva from 6 to 10 July this year. UKE’s President, Przemysław Kuna, took part in the High-Level Track at the WSIS 2026 Forum today.

This event is organised annually by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other UN agencies, including UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD. A total of over 12,000 participants from 160 countries are participating in this conference and the parallel UN AI Governance Dialogue and the AI for Good Forum. Thousands of participants are also following the event online.

Speakers at the Opening Ceremony included Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the ITU, Guy Ryder, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, and Gianna Luzio, Director of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), Switzerland. They highlighted, amongst other things, the need for coordinated actions to bridge the digital divide and to ensure the Internet access for all (2.2 billion people who still remain offline), to close the US$ 2.8 trillion funding gap in digital investment, and to develop the potential of human-centred AI.

This year’s discussions and panels focus, amongst other things, on the responsible use of AI, whose  rapid development is driving the adoption of new technologies, to the benefit of all users. Possible synergies between various initiatives and activities within the UN are also being discussed, as well as the development of more effective forms of international cooperation at various levels.
