UKE organises a meeting with high level participants of the Digital Week in Geneva

Over 200 high-level representatives of international organisations, diplomats, ministers responsible for digitalisation and heads of national regulatory authorities from around the world took part in a high-level meeting organised by UKE, the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in Geneva.

The meeting took place as part of the ongoing Digital Week – comprising three events: the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, and the AI for Good Global Summit.

The event was attended by, amongst others, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Guy Ryder, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Minister of Digital Affairs and Government Plenipotentiary for Cybersecurity, and Łukasz Różycki, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the UN Office in Geneva.

During the meeting, Poland’s achievements in the field of digitalisation and electronic communications were presented, including the Strategy for the Digitization of Poland to 2035 and the achievements of UKE over the past 20 years. The event also provided an opportunity for informal discussions, during which the Polish perspective on key telecommunications issues was presented, along with Poland’s candidacy for the ITU Council, for the period 2027–2030.

During the event, solutions relating to smart cities were presented. Przemysław Kuna, President of UKE, explained that the functioning of smart cities is based on information and communication technologies, the Internet of Things and real-time data analysis. “The mission of institutions such as UKE, telecommunications regulators, is to ensure that the providers of these services deliver them in a reliable, competitive and uninterrupted manner.” said the UKE President. He also referred to this year’s celebrations marking UKE’s 20th anniversary. “It has been a time of building a competitive, modern telecommunications market. As we enter the coming decades, we do so with the awareness that the times we live in—like no other—above all require us to place the end user at the centre of our activities.”

In this context, a postage stamp was also unveiled, issued by Poczta Polska, featuring an image of Andrzej Wajda during the filming of “The Promised Land”, to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth.
